I was in bed at 8:40 pm last night and asleep only moments later. I just couldn’t stay awake. The Mountain Dew wore off around 7.
Guess what time I woke up all by myself? 7am. I told you…. 10 hours. It was still dark when I woke up – and as you know, I had a sleep deficit to address. Snuggly boy wandered in around 7:30 whispering, “Please still be there… please still be there.” He was relieved to find me keeping his snuggly spot cozy and waiting for him. He said, “So, are you done getting up with dad?” I moaned and replied, “Yeah – I just couldn’t do it.” He goes, “Well, now you have your answer. You wondered what would happen if you got up with him – and you were too tired. I’m a thousand percent sure if you hadn’t gotten up early yesterday, you would have had a Diet Coke yesterday instead of the Mountain Dew.” He’s a thousand percent right.
We were both content to return to our cozy conversation this morning. We play these verbal games – “Eat You With a Spoon”, “Who Loves You?”, “You’re the Best Boy”, and “Good Nut” to name a few.
We were out of bed by 8 – and hey – that’s an entire hour earlier than normal! I’ve decided to adopt a strict policy on sleep. There a natural order when it comes to daylight… you sleep when it’s dark out. Ain’t nothing getting me out of bed before the sun is up unless it’s absolutely necessary. Feel free to adopt it for yourself. It’s a great policy.
