My “shock and awe” gift was totally successful!
Having “learned” iMovie – and I’m using the word “learned” very loosely – I decided to transfer our old 8mm cassettes onto DVD. I knew Spin would be delighted and shocked by it. His very words were, “I have been carrying so much guilt for not getting these into a viewable format.”
Um, viewable format? Of the twenty cassettes we have – none of them were even dated.
Part of the reason I’ve been somewhat “absent” from my blog is because the transfers have been tying up my computer. Between the live capture time, editing, burning and backing up, each cassette to dvd has taken eight stinkin’ hours. I only had time to get through half of what we have, but I’m assuming it will be easier to work on now that Spin knows what I’m doing. I was using all my “free time” (while he was at work or away on business) to work on this project.
And it has been so worth it! The memories are priceless. Stink and Nina have loved watching clips of themselves – and I have been reminded of how charmed a life we have led. I am so grateful for my healthy children and our happy, happy days.
Here is one of the more entertaining thirty second clips. When Nina was three, she loved Celine Dion’s My Heart Will Go On. She would listen to it in headphones and just sing her little heart out.
I tried to put captions on her otherwise unintelligible words, but I’m not smart enough to do that. Yet.
So here they are:
We’ll stay forever this way,
You are safe in my heart,
And my heart will go on and on.
And here she is – in all her precious pre-school glory – my Nina. (YouTube wasn’t cooperating, so I hope this link works.)
Perhaps it’s not as cute to you as it is to me…. but man, are her father and I grateful for this child!
Anyway, Happy Father’s Day, Spin!
Thanks for being an excellent father, provider, protector, leader and friend to our children!
