Enough Happy to Last Me Forever

by Soliloquy on July 10, 2008

John Mayer. 16th Row. Ocean Front. My man.

That right there, dear reader, defines Happy for me.

Last night was amazing. A. MAZ. ING.

Nothing could ruin it.

Not forgetting my eyeliner in Atlanta. (gasp!)

Not having to drink Diet Pepsi with dinner. (I hate Pepsi-town.)

No wine. (State Park venue, wha- huh?!)

Not the wind and rain.

Not my soaked dress and cold wet feet all night.

Not even the couple seated next to us who spent the entire concert making out and grinding.

None of that had enough power to overcome the magic that is John Mayer for Spin and me.

Something about his music transcends everything negative thing and takes us to a happy place in our relationship. It floods us with memories of the happiest night of our marriage in October 2006.

It was at the Chastain Amphitheater in Atlanta. At the end of a miserable week in one of the most challenging stretches of Spin’s career, I surprised him with tickets to see John Mayer.

We sang along under stars and cozied up under the quilt I brought for warmth. I brought drinks, but Spin wandered off and came back with a bottle of wine. The music was outstanding, the venue intimate and inviting.

When we left the park, Spin yelled out loud, “I LOVE MY WIFE!”

Words I will never forget to my dying day. Words that define the happiness that is our marriage. (I’m a little crazy about him, too, by the way.)

And so all of that rushed back over us last night and I’m telling you – nothing could have hampered the experience.

A few pictures for you. I was so tempted to take a picture of the girl next to me when she was sucking on her boyfriend’s arm….. Spin wouldn’t let me.

They would have been all, “What the?”

And I would have been all, Exactly. What the?”

Listen – if you’re gonna’ put it all out there – expect to be blogged about.

Seriously.

Look, Darcie! Colbie Caillat!

I love your pictures!

Beautifully written memories of what had to be such a great night.

Do you ever think about taking some of your posts, especially this one as I’m quite fond of it, and placing them in a scrapbook for your kids to read…it might sound cheesy, but I just thought this post, along with the pictures would have made an awesome entry in something like that. Not neccessarily a book ABOUT your kids, but FOR your kids. And I’m not talking about a scrapbook, like the kind MARTHA would create. Just something for your kids and grandkids…because seriously S…sometimes you write such beautiful things, it would be a shame if there wasn’t a hardcopy of this somewhere. Sometime physical to pass down.

Ok enough blabbering. My dog smells pretty bad. Or maybe it’s me? Yikes! better go determine which it is.

First of all can I just tell you how awesome it is that you and Spin are so in love. I mean, the baby monitor incident aside, it’s just so darn cute and charming.

And yes. I see the Colbie. John Mayer is one of my favorites, for sure. But did you love Colbie?! Were you all bubbly (not the wine kind of bubbly obviously – state park, sha, whatever), but doesn’t that song just make you, well, bubbly?

I know you have talked about challenges in your early days, but what a testimony to who God is in your lives today. I love that you are so obviously ‘in love’!

Enjoy the rest of your trip, and for God’s sake, make sure the last guests didn’t leave their monitor behind….
