I’m Not Exactly Ivy-League

by Soliloquy on July 16, 2008

So I had dinner with a friend tonight…..

I like her because she’s funny.

She asked if she could buy me drinks in exchange for editing her twin boys’ college app essays.

Based on my Humiliated post.

I’m so proud.

The funny that I referred to?? She was serious.

Holy GPA, Batman! (No. Really, Batman. They’re both like, 4.5.)

Um, as soon as I heard Princeton, Yale, Georgetown, Vanderbilt, Penn, I ordered another drink.

I had to.

So, I have my 1945 red ballpoint pen out, and I’m editing…..

That’s right. Me. Editing writing that’s better than anything I ever produced as a 17-year-old.

Or as a 37-year-old - but whatever.

So these darlin’ boys will be headed off to Ivy League schools with essays edited by the voice of…. Soliloquy?!?!

Oh, that’s rich.

Let’s just hope no one pegs them for a mommy blogger….

This post made me want to meet you more than any other. Not sure why…could be the margarita drinking or maybe the clueless husband (do we need to wear a sign that says Open for Business?)…..or the fact that your real friends think you are total smarty pants (and you are clearly)……..I can’t wait.

This post had me laughing… I always write better at 2 AM, so I’m in a punch-drunk state rather than due to the consumption of alcohol. I’d rather be drinking than overtired, but – unfortunately – I am allergic to alcohol. Is there no justice in this world?!!?!?! Yes… you can pity me now. It’s allowed.

hahahaha. OMG. First of all that is super cool (AND FUNNY) about the editing. And often super cool and FUNNY don’t go together so that is a complete bonus. BUT second, really what is up with Spin? Shaving his neck didn’t get him in the mood…

I am just sayin’ that in some parts of the country that is considered foreplay. ..

Honey, you of all folks ought to know that the editors of smart people are the REAL people that make the world go ’round.

Case in point: I’m working with a local homelessness initiative – they hire a PhD grad from my school’s program, and he’s Program Mgr for the prestigious Denver’s Road Home program. He pulls together his study – sends his draft out to the committee, and what did I do? Redlined the hell out of it. His response, “That was SOOOO helpful! Thank you, you’ve just made this report perfect.” And he’s the one collecting the consulting check, not moi.

I’m baaaack, lol. And what fun we could have had at a lovely Mexican haunt we found in Glenwood. It’s called Tequila’s and boy howdy….the food was great, and the margs were phenomenal! Charlie Brown was also clueless, because instead of enjoying a wife in the mood to be taken, he called his folks to check in on our kids! So I in a buzzed state, took his picture of him on the cell phone, lol!

Yes! I’m not alone!

Not only did I edit (well ok, I had a wee bit of creative control over Meg’s essay) Meg’s college essay last winter, a couple of her friends asked me to do the same for them. After I picked myself up off the floor from the shock, I was amazed and OH MY GOSH SO THANKFUL that these kids are as intelligent as they are and already so well written because it made my work easy! Because PULEEEZE, have ya read my blog lately? I need an editor of my own! Hmm, I wonder if any of those kids are available!

Girl, I wrote a post the other night while I was lit up! I couldn’t get to the edit post section fast enough the next morning! It wasn’t near the train wreck I thought it would be! AND, it just poured out a whole lot easier than when I have to sit and use my brain. I am thinking of drinkin’ heavily before each post writing. Let me know your opinion now that you’ve had a dry spell now. Thanks!
