I Neeeeeeed a New Addiction

by Soliloquy on October 14, 2008

Not to replace any of my current addictions, mind you.  I need a new one in addition to that which obsesses occupies me.  (I have no life.  I’m not ashamed to admit it.)

I’m late to the game most of the time. Case in point, I just started watching Lost.

I know!

All these years, I’ve been missing it!  Y’all have been blogging about it forever – and I couldn’t relate.  So I started watching.  (Spin refused to join me.)

The first season was great.  The second season was even better – so out of a desperate desire to have someone to share it with, I invited Nina to join me and we started all over at the beginning.  We’re almost done with season three.

We started watching less than a month ago.

I cannot stop myself.

However, there’s only one season left to view – which translates to roughly only 16 more hours.  And then we’ll have to wait with the rest of the world for season five.

So, you see? I need a new addiction.

Melissa at Stretch Marks is touting Worst Week on CBS.  It’s funny.  Really funny.  I’m not going to lie. I do think though, that their writers may be using my blog for their material. The third episode had a BABY MONITOR incident.  Want to see a short clip for yourself? (It’s only 52 seconds.)

Just be prepared to have a new favorite sitcom.  Consider yourself warned.

Anyone watch Grey’s Anatomy?  That’s the other one I’m intrigued by.  24 seems a little intense for me….. but had I known how much I would have loved Lost, I would have watched sooner, so I’ll keep an open mind.

So tell me – what do you recommend?

The first season of Grey’s is great. The second season is AWESOME, the best! Since then, it has kinda gone downhill, but I still watch it.

I also like Psych, which is on USA. It’s really funny. Great one-liners.

Pushing Daisies is kinda quirky and fun. And I also liked October Road (which is more of a drama) when it was on.

And I have a secret little addiction to Laguna Beach and The Hills. Shhhhhh….

I have heard so much great stuff about Lost and have never watched it but you’re really making me want to start.

And like AndiK said above, I love The Hills, too. Yep, I’m a grown woman livin’ vicariously through those chics! ha!

I’m not sure if I’ve ever commented on your blog, but I’ve been reading for a while.

So, now I’m commenting. First of all, I haven’t gotten into Lost. Nobody has convinced me yet. 24 – different story. Totally worth it….that should be your next obsession. Only, if you’re like me, you’ll end up staying up and watching the first season IN 24 hours….which is quite painful, the next day.

Then, I went over and read your baby monitor story. I’m DYING. That is quite possibly the funniest story ever. You told it wonderfully. I don’t have any embarrassing stories, so when someone asks “what’s the most embarrassing thing that’s happened to you?” I can answer with “nothing, but this one girl, whose blog I stalk…..”

Thanks for the material!

Because you and I are soul mates from some other universe- I am going to give you a reccomendation that might be dangerous. It becomes MORE than an addiction…it becomes a love affair.

Are you ready?

MAD MEN.

Download all episodes on itunes. I watched the whole first season in THREE days. You won’t believe how good this show is. Oh and the retro-ness of it all. It has Anne Taintor screaming. You must. I insist. WATCH THIS.

I love Worst Week – it’s hysterical! Grey’s is another favorite – have you ever watched Private Practice? It’s really good too.

Oh, I gotta have my Grey’s!!!

Another show I have recently become addicted to is “Brothers and Sisters”. I’m having to play catch up though. Great show!!! Love it!

And I am not ashamed to admit this. I am a huge fan of “Dancing With The Stars”. I just love watching people dance.

I watch Desperate Housewives. And Boston Legal. Of course The Office. And it’s possible I’ve been reliving the glory days with the new 90210.

I second Brothers and Sisters. I am not a huge Sally Field fan, but she is really good in this. You get sucked into these peoples lives so fast.

I have been watching Lost and Grey’s from their beginning. WONDERFUL!!

Mad Men is also good. And we have been sucked into Swingtown this season too. It is so bad it’s good. :-)

One of my faves is Burn Notice – it started as a summer show on USA – which was great when my regular addictions went into reruns. It starts a ‘winter season’ on Oct 23rd (16 episodes – woohoo!). You can see some of the episodes online – check it out. Other faves – Bones, The Starter Wife (which just started up again), Grey’s, Lipstick Jungle. Of all of those, Bones and Burn Notice are my top faves.

I’m a Grey’s freak. Good thing, too, since they’re taking my beloved ER off of the air. I didn’t start watching until season 3 or 4 I think so you don’t have to catch up if you don’t want.

I quit starting new shows a few years ago because the only good ones, besides being few and far between, are on at 10 pm here and I’m getting too old for that.

I don’t have any other suggestions but I second you on Lost. We recently finished the third season and now we’re waiting for the 4th to come out on DVD in December. I had no idea it would be so good.

We really liked Heroes last year, but so far this year, eh, not so much.

I do enjoy Desperate though. And Amazing Race. And usually Survivor but not this season.

Oh wait, I lied. I do have a suggestion. The Closer with Kira Sedgwick. It’s on TNT but you can rent the seasons from Netflix. It’s also very good.

Also… Nip/Tuck. SOOO addicting. It’s the crack to my whore.

if you like watching shows that are already out on dvd, i’d recommend West Wing. i know it’s political drama, but it has LOTS of human interest in it too, and the acting is phenomenal! getting to watch rob lowe and bradley whitford isn’t difficult either!

i’d also recommend Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. don’t know what network it’s on, but it’s just intense enough and the interaction between the characters is great. was skeptical, but husband hooked me on that one.

another one our entire family likes is Eureka. again, you can catch up on seasons 1 and 2 on dvd, and we’re halfway through season 3 on the sci-fi channel. it’s quirky, but very fun! unique cast of characters…

found you through heather whittaker’s blog party. i’ll be there on the 8th. wonder who our new prez will be?

I can’t tell you how horrified my husband and I were when they canceled the show last season due to the strike. All other shows pale in comparison. It is intense but if you can handle Lost then you can handle 24. Plus there are six (I think) seasons you can catch up on before the new season starts in November. You could be in tv watching nirvana with all that 24 to watch.

I love Hell’s Kitchen, does that count? I really am addicted. I found out when it was going to start and I cancelled everything for that night. I’m even thinking of taking a vacation day the next day. Just so I can watch it again without anyone elbowing me during it. I know, I know, I am wierd, and I don’t think this is the kind of show you are looking for…
