Joy? Comes in the Morning?

by Soliloquy on November 11, 2008

I know we’re told we can take God at His Word, but at my house, well…. ‘joy in the morning’ is a stretch.

It’s not that I don’t “do mornings”. It’s just that I don’t do them well.

And isn’t Satan just the one ever lurking on the battlefield of my vulnerabilities?

Muffins with Moms was hosted this morning at Stink’s school. At 8am. Everyone knows that you don’t show up for Muffins with Moms without being freshly showered and made up.

Which means my morning started an entire hour earlier than is acceptable.

We rolled in at 8:25 having ranted argued the whole way about how Stink needs to accept responsibility for his attitudes and actions, (or lack thereof), and stop blaming anyone – everyone – else. After shoving a hasty muffin in our faces we joined the rest of the mothers and children in a time of ……. prayer.

Heh.

I mean count on God to reclaim what is HIS. And oh how we both needed it. What followed was a time of repentance and acceptance of responsibility for attitudes and actions. Ahhhh…. make that MY attitudes and actions of the morning.

I told you. I don’t do them well.

(Note to self: Reserve a copy of ‘Scream-Free Parenting’ from the library.)

Indeed, we serve a God of redemption. A God who takes what Satan intended for evil and is faithful to redeem it for our good and His glory.

Well, if not exactly joy -at least His mercies are new every morning. Hallelujah that I left my son at school in a state of restored relationship.

(But in the spirit of ‘fleeing temptation’, I’m fairly certain I won’t be attending anymore school sponsored breakfasts.)

Mornings are ugly here. It’s probably entirely my fault. Don’t tell my husband.

I hate to disagree with you twice in the same week, but I love mornings. I get up at 4or 5am regardless of what is going on that day.

I’m joyful in the morning. As long as I’m sleeping. Sleeping gives me joy!
School breakfasts are sadistic. The devil’s playground.

I am only joyful in the mornings when I have an IV line of coffee hooked to my arm. Heh. It’s something I’m working on… not because I want to, but because God is forcing the issue.

I actually love the mornings. But that’s because I’m up at 5:00am, alone on my computer with a cup of coffee. Then at 6:30 I shower. I barely see the fandamily until 7:30, and 20 minutes later we are headed for the bus. It normally goes well. But if you throw something into the mix to change it up a bit–LOOK OUT!

Now that I’ve posted, like 5 comments in a row here, do you think I’m wierd?! Yeah, maybe it is a little wierd.
