Spin's Winner

by Soliloquy on November 12, 2008

Spin had a few favorite comments, of them being:

“Sometimes, after reading other people’s funny and sarcastic (not trying to suck up here, just being honest) blog posts, I am in a good mood…which you know, is always beneficial to him ;)

- submitted by mej

Spin’s take: “mej has a smart husband. He recognizes that if his blogger is happy, it can only lead to good things. Frankly, I’m surprised that this wasn’t the first answer on every response. Way to go, brother.”

and:

“Freak? More like, FREAKING COMIC GENIUS…”

-submitted by Texasholly at June Cleaver Nirvana

Spin’s take: “She easily detected that with every gift Soliloquy receives, it is smothered in holiday sarcasm. Hey, I didn’t make up the rules…I’m just following them. Flattery works.”

But the gift card MUST go to this blogger’s husband, who submitted his very own prize winning comment.

“Hello, I’m Darcie’s (SuchTheSpot) husband…and I have a blogger for a wife.
I’ve decided that Spin and I could be friends…which, given my vast (not) number of friends is not really much of an accomplishment. However, I think that we would have plenty to discuss given our wives affinity for providing hundreds of complete strangers with an open window into our lives. Which is odd, because my wife freaks out when the windows are open at night in fear that one of our neighbors might see us sitting down to eat dinner – gasp! My reason for submitting an entry also qualifies as an entry in itself, as I hope to try to even out the giveaway-takeaway ratio of gift cards and freebies that have been flowing out of our home since my wife first began to blog.

Rather than tell what I do to tolerate my wife’s blogging, I thought it’d be more fitting to share what I now don’t do.

- I don’t spend that time after dinner and before the kids going to bed doing anything remotely relaxing. Instead, I find myself bouncing between baths, teeth brushings, a manic wife demanding a blog topic, and reading (out loud) such literary greats as ‘Going on a Bear Hunt’ and ‘I Love You Stinky Face.’

- I don’t harbor any illusions of self-esteem. I can count on a mitten how many times one of my ‘blog topics’ have made the final cut into production. That’s right – zero. The likely response I get is that disgusted look accompanied by one or more of the following phrases: ‘Nevermind,’ ‘That’s boring,’ ‘REALLY??,’ ‘How about no?’

- I don’t say anything out loud that I haven’t first evaluated in my head for ‘blogability.’

- I don’t ask why she didn’t blog today. That really only results in a diatribe about how boring our life is and how we don’t get out enough.

- I don’t ever hear the end of it when our network goes down. When that happens, I am all of a sudden expected to be a part of the ‘Nerd Herd.’ She cannot understand how I can have a Computer Science degree yet not know how to force internet connectivity to exist or turn water to wine.

- I don’t take a bite of dessert until I am sure that she isn’t going to take a picture for her blog friends (aka someone important) to see.

- Finally…I don’t go many days without hearing about how her friend Soliloquy (and countless other blogger names not quite as Shakespearean) did this or that. While it is better than hearing about Sammy Brady in her ‘Days of Our Lives’ phase, I sometimes find myself recycling the anecdotes she retells in my daily life. For instance, I don’t turn the baby monitor on without making a Soliloquy and Spin–related comment.

So there it is. That is my life with a blogger. And admitting that you have a problem is the first step.”

-submitted by Jeff, of Darcie’s Such the Spot

Spin’s take: ” Jeff’s response was outstanding. Mostly because it hits so close to home for most spouses of bloggers. You gotta love the self-deprecating humor. Very well done. Put the gift card to good use. I think the lighted reindeer are on sale at Home Depot this week!”

Congratulations, Jeff. Very clever to post a comment all by your big bad self! Your giftcard will be in the mail as soon as I have a mailing address.

Moving on.

GIFT #5

(Does anyone even care??)

On that note, unless there’s egg nog involved (the real stuff), I’m over Christmas already.

Dude, at least there’s chocolate involved this time. Unless you got an empty snowman, and had to fill it yourself? Sad.

We have long established that I am a freak like Spin. But maybe all these cheesy gifts are leading up to something really great?? Like maybe Spin you are going to take my advice and GO TO TIFFANY’S now before it is too late.

And Quee..I have a suggestion. Move all your Christmas decorations (tree too) to a storage unit after this season. AND YOU KEEP the key.

Sorry Spin. But I have to look out for my girl.

Spin, thank you very much! I will spend it wisely…

Oh, and as for a lighted reindeer…I think I’ll pass. I talked it over with the ice-skating penguin and the scarfed snowman who reside in my garage 11 months of the year and the three of us decided that we could much sooner use a new tool over another creepy resident. The snowman also asked me why he is wearing a scarf…but I didn’t have a good answer.

Cheesey?? Over the past 5 days Soliloquy has received a Christmas ornament, a Christmas candle, a Christmas CD, Christmas M&Ms, and she gave Jeff a headstart on his Christmas wish-list…all for not putting up the Christmas tree. That’s not cheesey…that’s fortuitous.

You want to know what IS cheesey?? How silent Ashley has become. Where did she go?? This was her brilliant idea. By the way, Ashley…the bill…all $18.92 of it…is coming your way.

ARE THOSE PEANUT M&MS? Those are SO off-limits in my peanut-free home – I’m enjoying them vicariously, so please say you are at least enjoying the candy! Sad that my fave food is anything peanut/peanut butter, or was until hubs and I made a peanut-allergic child….

Yeah, where is Ashley. She totally bailed on you once you ran with her idea!

And now I know that I should have gotten Kip on the computer to write up his poor poor pitiful me…husband of a blogger story…. Dang.

Spin, thanks for the recognition!

Jeff definitely deserved the win! I laughed the entire time while reading his comment.

As far as the gifts go, “glamorous life” does have a point with the Tiffany’s suggestion. You know, if you went there tomorrow, you quite possibly could save yourself having to think of what, 9 more gifts?…. just a thought :)

I’ve got too many m&ms left from halloween. How about mulling spices…that would be Christmas-y. And maybe just go ahead and throw in the wine to go with it. I’d enter for that. :)
