As an adult, I’ve had a few recurring dreams. Which means they mean something, right?
Like the one where I had to take finals for classes I had somehow missed. For the whole semester. And not only missed, but I couldn’t find my locker, remember the combination, remember my schedule or find any of my books.
I had the dream over and over and over.
Do you know when it stopped? After I had my kids standardized tests for home schooling. They did great – and apparently it allayed the fear I had that was causing the recurring dreams.
Well, there are two others I have on a regular basis. One is that I am trying to spit plaster out of my mouth and I cannot get it out. You know the plaster they use to take molds of your teeth? That kind. Only I cannot. rid. my. mouth. of it. (Picture a never ending play-doh factory. Gross.)
The other is that I’m trying to run away. From who, I’m not always sure – but it’s obviously someone I fear. However, I cannot gain any ground nor can I gain any speed.
And YES – it’s a dream. Athletic, I am not. I don’t run unless its errands. I’m not sure I could get very far very fast in real life, but this is more about fear.
Wait. Do I really want to know what these dreams mean?
Good news! Excellent news, really. The kids both got into the private Christian school! We were told on Friday they both had been accepted.
I know.
We are ecstatic.
I am now on the countdown to what I am affectionately referring to the “Year of the Bon-Bon.”
Spin is not amused.
I figure I’ll justify the bon-bons and soap operas by cleaning a toilet every once in a while and vacuuming. Maybe I’ll get me a timer and attempt to get through the laundry from beginning to end.
Spin is prepared to continue to pay someone to clean the house, though. (Should I be offended or milk it?)
All this to say (and silly you thought I was on a tangent) that I had the first of what I suspect might be another recurring dream. It just had that feel.
With only one difference.
I know exactly what fear is at the root.
So here’s the dream:
Spin is taking me out. To a club. There’s a $32 cover charge per person which not only gets you in to the place – but provides you with an “escort”.
An attractive “escort”.
Once inside Spin ditches me and my “escort” turns into a career coach.
An attractive career coach.
But still. A career coach.
Whose single purposed is to find me a job.
Where I have to work.
That would be the part of the dream that actually turns into a nightmare.
Scary, right?
I mean clearly, I have a fear of never actually realizing my send-the-kids-to-school-stay-at-home-mom dream.
Clearly.
Anyone, though, with the meaning of the plaster in my mouth and legs of lead….
I can pay you in bon-bons.

At least you dream. I haven’t had a dream that I remembered in 10-15 years.
Analyze that!
No help here. I have recurring dreams of a tornado coming after me.
But HOORAY for school! Congrats!

Well, I don’t know what they mean, but I do have a similar one with school and lockers and tests and missed classes. I’d like to hear the answer to that one.
Now I’m going to look up the word “allayed” because apparently I don’t know what it means either.
Congrats on the Christian School. That is awesome!
Now get a job laze-o.
If I have to work, you should too.
I have the same dream about taking finals in a class I missed for the whole semester. I remember pleading with them, “It has to be a mistake. I do NOT do things like this.”
Now you have me thinking…do I have this dream when I GIVE standardized tests? Hmmm…

I am praying that the dream means nothing but also that it won’t be a bon-bon year for you. Waiting for that little girl to arrive!
Congrats on the kids. Guess I am still supposed to Homeschool, because I don’t feel anywhere near the jealousy that I thought I would.

I have both of those dreams, the school dream and the running away dream. And one time, I actually did miss every single class for a semester. I was enrolled in one class and went to the wrong one all year long. Didn’t find out until the end of the semester, when I got an F. That was a fun Christmas holiday.
Congrats on the Christian school. And enjoy the bonbons. I don’t think I’ll ever get the bonbon time either, and I think your dream is justified.

You crack me up!! Being a working woman isn’t all that the feminist thought it would be
But as a home schooled child (K-12) who wants to home school the kids I might have, I could see it being scary to send them off to school.
But I’m willing to wager money that you find some many things to do with the extra 40 hours a week, you won’t need a job!!

Can’t help you with the dream interpretation. I’ve never been very good at that. But, you had me cracking up with The Year of the Bon Bon! My son is going to school in the fall five days a week — for the whole day. I’ll have two in school and just Grace at home. Easy peasy. It’s the Year of the Bon Bon for me too!
And, btw, you most definitely “milk it.” There’s simply no question there. Yes. Continue to pay someone to clean the house.
milk it. you’ll love having house help!

In the School dream…. WHAT CLASS WAS IT?
Both my mother and I have had these dreams for years… For my Mom it is always a MATH class. She was a journalism / English major so I can see Math being one of her big fears.
When I have this dream it is always an English class. I love to read but I have always hated my English classes due to the reading selections. The last time I had this dream, I dreamed that I showed up to the final exam and had to write 5 – 10 pages on Anna Karenina. I was thinking… hummm ‘depressing and Russian / has affair / sticks head in front of train’… Not sure how to get 5 pages from that…
Imagine my surprise / horror when later that year Oprah put it on her bookclub list… (not that I read anything on her bookclub but I fell over laughing watching other soccer mom lined up to buy a book that noone ever read willingly in high school… I so wanted to scream — “She sticks her head in front of a train” and save them from wasting their money and time!
Just had to say it! *grin*
