I'm A Fan Of The Tattoos

by Soliloquy on March 15, 2009

I mean, it was no picnic, but……..

I lived.

I DID IT, Y’ALL!

(Please excuse the stretch marks. It’s my mid-life crisis, thank you very much.)

Also? I’m ready for another.

For real.

Not that I’m going to become any kind of ink junkie like Blah Blah or Mommylogues, but I would really like something of eternal significance…..

……as in Hebrew.

I’m thinking “Redeemed”.

Because I am redeemed.  And that’s as permanent as you get, y’all.

As for significance, Spin and I discussed how to answer the question, “Why a key?”

My sister, Sugar Mama, asked me first.  It went something like this. “What? Why? Who are you?”

You, dear reader, likely know more about me than my own dear sister.

Obviously, the key is symbolic for new boundaries.  Not everyone gets to know everything about me anymore.  I don’t owe anyone anything – and who I let in (the entire internet??) is my choice.

Anonymity is a thing of beauty.

If I had to verbalize it, though, to someone who doesn’t get me – or try to get me?  Well, pick an answer.  Any one will do.

“A key is symbolic of having figured some things out about myself, being okay with my imperfections, and embracing who I am in Christ.”

“You know – the ‘key’ to all my secrets.”

“Spin has the lock.”

The tattoo artist came highly recommended by a friend who happens to be an ink junkie. (And you thought you knew me!!! Ha!)  He was good, if not somewhat unapologetic about what he was doing to me. Hellloooo?  It hurt!)

Was he my favorite person?  No.

Will I go back?  Yes.

So, it looks good, y’all.  Even better now that it’s not so angry.  (No need for a redo, unlike my most recent investment.  Ahem.)

If you want to see a few more (and by more, I mean BETTER pics) leave a comment.

Okay, who’s next? Shauna??  (MARCY?! Yes, Marcy – that was OUR key.  What are you waiting for?!)

I like it! I’m an ink-junkie-wannabe, I have 3 tattoos. I was thinking of doing a heart-shaped lock and making John get the key tattoo. heh
And OMG, your ‘most recent investment’ needs a re-do? Seriously? Ugh!

Congrats! I bet there is something freeing about it. Like, now you are a big girl and don’t need anyone’s permission (Spin aside) to do something like that to your body.

Can’t wait to get mine!

Glad your happy with it. None for me, thank you very much. I’m not a fan of voluntary pain or needles. And, if i put a tatoo on my tummy, the image would be somewhat skewed due to the amount of ripples there.

Yeah. I am gonna have NO problem explaining to my husband why his totally anti-tat wife is getting a tattoo on my body paid for by my friend’s HUSBAND. The same husband who flew me cross country for a ‘playdate’ with his wife. That is sure to go over very well. Who are we? The housewives of The OC/Atlanta?

Not saying I won’t.
Just saying I need to work on the man a little.
And where I get it? Will be little more…..hidden.

And BTW. The key makes perfect sense to me on MANY levels. I adore that damn key. Okay so Spin….are you gonna have a tat of a lock next?

Glamorous One (G.O.) –

There will be no lock, so just erase that thought from your mind. Now. You, too, BFLS. There is no race.

So, G.O., you’re a creative soul, I’m sure you’ll unlock the secret to making it okay for the Man. I mean, you’d hate to be left out of the “key club” now wouldn’t you?

Very cool for you.

I got my first tattoo last Feb. and as soon as it was done, I knew I wanted another one. My first one I wanted the word HOPE in Hebrew, but went with a sun on my foot…it hurt like heck, but I love it and I can’t wait for summer to show it off. I know what my next tattoo will say, just gotta figure it out. “Dum Spiro Spero” – translated means “While I Breathe I Hope”.

It’s an addiction though…welcome to the club!

This is killing me. I’m thinking of going to St. Sabrina’s in MPLS for my next one. I’ve been plotting it for a year or so and this is making me really antsy. Must find a reason to hit the cities so I can get my prelim drawing!

And for the record, Mama Belle, I HATE needles. So much I skipped the epidural with both kids. But for some reason, a tattoo is just different.

Wow, that’s pretty neat. Every now and then I get the urge. Because it feels a little “bad” to get a tattoo. Mostly, I’m afraid I’ll regret it once I’ve gotten it, and want it off. Or my life will change and it will no longer have meaning for me. I don’t know.

What happened to your most recent investment???

I LOVE IT! and they are so so addictive. I also have a dragon fly on the outside of my ankle and would totally get another if I could think of something worthwhile to get.

By the way, I’m linking you tomorrow. I have a whole post about my dislike of tattoos, except when it’s done in a classy, discreet manner like yours. I’m going to use yours as an example. Don’t be hatin’ on me ’cause you know I love ya’, tattoo and all.
