Bobbity-Boo, Baby

by Soliloquy on April 30, 2009

I’m not stupid enough to try to make anyone think I’m any smarter than I am.

I know just enough to be dangerous.  That is, to get myself into trouble I can’t get myself out of.

Take blogging for instance.

My blog was just down for 24 hours.

That normally wouldn’t bother me…… I mean…. there are like ten of you who just keep coming back. And so far, whether the blog is up or down – or the mojo is there or not -  y’all just keep subjecting yourselves coming back. (For which I am grateful…. because I have ten wonderful new favorite friends….)

Plus, I like to think of myself as a low-maintenance kind of gal who can roll with the punches when her blog goes down for 24 hours.

But bother me it DID, and I use that word modestly.  Anxiety is probably a better definition.

I hated that helpless feeling.  No one was answering phone calls, emails – nada.  I was LOOKING for someone to throw money at to get my blog back up in a hurry!

Again, nada!

The source of my angst?

I never look at my stats.  I just don’t really care.  Honestly.

But when my blog was giving me a bandwidth error message, I had to investigate…..

Turns out maybe I care more than I thought I did.

I’ve had 2700 hits this week (that’s about 2, 690 more than normal) thanks to Stumble Upon.

Yay for Stumble Upon!!

2700!!!!!!

Fifteen months of blogging and we’re finally getting somewhere…. throw open the gates, come one, come all………….

ONLY TO HAVE IT ALL CRASH!

And is there anything I can do about it?

No!  Because, again, for anyone who missed it earlier, I am just not as bright as I’d like to be. Try to keep up, please.

I am however, STUPID enough to rely on a friend who actually has a REAL JOB (she’s a smart cookie, she is) to help me with this crap.

I like to call her my Techy Fairy Godmother. Here’s why: (from a guest post I did on her blog last summer.)

sexygm

So, I know you’re wondering how she got the name.

By dropping everything every time I call to fix whatever I’ve broken – or by redefining everything for me into single syllable words.

Heather is like, freakishly smart when it comes to WordPress. I’m not asking any questions about what I have done to earn her favor, but I am takin’ what she’s got to offer.

Bobbity-boo, baby.

Now, if there’s a fire in your house, you call 9-1-1 and have a realistic expectation that your tax money is going to prove useful. See, when you PAY for something, there are people (sometimes even strong, brave, hot men) who come rushing to your aid.  They can’t wait to save you.

But if you have a fire on your BLOG, you’re kind of at the mercy of your friend-with-a-REAL-JOB to be able and willing to drop everything for the crisis (which let’s face it, isn’t really a crisis at all) you think you are having.  The very one that will pay her NOTHING.

That’s her own fault of course, because despite every attempt I can make to PAY HER so that I can be demanding and high-maintenance as I want without feeling guilty, she’s a friend and a giver.

And honestly, no amount of money is likely worth having to deal with a demanding and high-maintenance Soliloquy, anyway.

I told you she was smart!

Well, one magic wave of her wand, and the ol’ blog was back up and running.  Not sure how she did it.  Or if she ever even knew it was down, for that matter….

Thank you, Techy Fairy Godmother!

To my 2,700 Stumble Upon readers….. please Stumble me again come back………

And to the faithful ten of you who keep coming back….. Stumble me, baby!  I’ll Stumble you back if you leave it in my comments.

I’m a believer!

I figured out it was down… and had it back up… what happened was, all your stumble upon new peeps (which, might I echo that you should stick around, stumble, whatever) caused you to need more bandwidth and I’ve now fixed that.

My apologies… now that I have a real job, I’m not able to sit ontop of my email all day like I did before… but when I saw you on twitter and you said emergency? i knew what it was…

and I knew how to fix it…

and i don’t give to everyone dear, just a few… and should you WANT to pay, go right ahead, however, I’m slacking in what you’ve asked me to do… so I feel horrible for taking it… eh

but you’re a friend… and it’s this bloggy stuff that caused our paths to cross and i’m ever so grateful.

now are you still having the picture problem? because that picture isn’t showing up… ;)

I confess, I didn’t realize it was down. I just keep you in my google reader so when there’s something new, I can hustle over here. For bonus points, I’ll have you know no matter how full my reader is, I come here first if there’s something. And if there isn’t, maybe I just read the cabin/baby monitor story again. If I feel the need to pee my pants laughing. I know nothing of stumble, but will have to check it out now.

Um…you know…one of your first reactions doesn’t have to be — “LOOKING for someone to throw money at!”

I’d much prefer…”I exhausted ALL of my options before having to pay for a solution.”

Just sayin.

Spin Darling,

Of COURSE I exhausted all my options first. It’s just that it only took me 1.6 seconds to do so.

There’s really nothing cash and/or wine can’t fix.

((Whispering…))

I don’t know this Stumble Upon of which you speak. I’ll check it out. I have you in my reader and I just hop over here as soon as I see something new pop up. That might (???) make me one of the 10. Maybe? Please?? LOL

Am I a loser because I have NO IDEA what Stumble upon is. None. I am a loser. You don’t even have to answer. I will go google it right now. And then I will stumble you if I can : ). I am glad you got so many hits. I can totally understand that though because you are truly one of the coolest bloggers. I just love you to pieces.
