My Damned Dog’s Self-Induced Seizures

by Soliloquy on June 1, 2009

My damned dog is so picky that she has begun “boycotting” mealtime unless there’s something mixed into her kibble.

Seriously, she won’t eat otherwise.

The problem is that if she doesn’t eat, then she gets hypo-glycemic, which the vet is fairly certain has been causing her seizures. (Hmmm, I’m just realizing I didn’t post about Spree’s second seizure a few months ago…. sorry. Maybe I was wanting to block it out?)

It goes like this: Refuse to eat – Vomit yellow bile from an upset empty tummy – Seize.

It happened this morning.

There’s a way to counteract the hypo-glycemia though, if we can get to her quickly enough after vomiting.

Ice cream.

The answer to every apoplectic girl’s problems?  You decide.

Vanilla ice cream. (Because chocolate ice cream for a dog would cause all kinds of other trouble – which is where the ice-cream-answer-to-apoplexy theory breaks down.)

Vanilla would never make me feel better.

Anyhoo…. so yeah, vanilla ice cream.  Easy, right?

Notsomuch.

So there I am racing the clock, desperately digging for the one remaining ice cream that HAD THE DOG’S NAME WRITTEN ON IT, complaining all the while that someone in this family who is not me ate it I couldn’t find it….

Spree refused vanilla yogurt, cool whip and finally settled on some peanut butter, which is better than nothing I suppose, but not exactly quickly administered.

Ever seen a dog eat peanut butter?

It takes a while.

Gratefully, no seizure.

I think I deserve a little ice cream of my own.

Chocolate, of course.

Poor pooch.

On another note, hope Spin got lots of “rest” this weekend while you toiled away. If you know what I mean.

Okay who the heck took that picture? And how funny are you for posting it? Actually it reminds me of my BUTT photo you posted a while back. Only yours is much smaller.

And really DOG VOMIT? IS that what the blog has come to? DOG VOMIT?

Call me. I will give you plenty of blog material.

Can’t comment nicely right now because I’m hating you for the look of your legs from behind. Guess I’ll go run a second time today. You got some muscles, girl.

I’m with Mama Belles. I am now filled with nagging self-doubt that I look as good as that in shorts. Dammit, now I have to pass on the bedtime bowl of cereal. ‘Cause, y’know, I can make durn near anything turn around and be about me, somehow.
