I spent the last day of 2009 reflecting on what damage the year left behind.
Today I am spending time pondering what resolutions I can live with having broken because let’s face it – if you know me at all, consistency is not my strong suit. If you know me at all, it may have also occurred to you that making resolutions equates to little more than one more unquestioned tradition.
GAH. That’s right.
“Hey! Don’t just make promises you’ll never be able to keep, make sure they’re asinine enough to make you feel really lousy about yourself.”
There are any number of worthy goals I would love to think I can resolve to do. I may even try my hand at a few of them. But that doesn’t mean they’re resolutions, per se.
For example, I’d love to read the Bible (the Message version) in a year. • I’d love to tone up. • I’d love to blog every day. • I’d love to be more disciplined. • I’d love to give up drinking.
Bahahahaha! The latter was a joke. Just wanted to be sure I had your attention! But really, all the rest? Totally, completely, highly, and in all other ways unlikely.
Seeing as I am nothing if not cynical a realist, I have decided instead to fly in the face of tradition resolve only that which I cannot fail.
Without further adieu:
Things I Resolve To Do in 2010
• Drink. more. wine.
See how easy that was?
I am destined to succeed.
Along with success, I expect 2010 to bring….. change. Change as long as it’s my idea is wonderful. I love change.
First up for change…… my blog. Did you notice the beginnings of said change? So clean and pretty, right?
Good wine stuff in the pipeline, y’all. Good stuff.

Hate to say this I resolved not to resolve anything! I know lame but I figure if I didn’t give my self any expectations then when I achieve something that’s great, party time for me and if I fail then oh well I never made it a goal anyway and I can wallow in a glass or two of an adult beverage! Happy New Year my friend!

Yeah, I hear ya’. I said the same thing. I refuse to set myself up for failure. No resolutions = no extra failures.
I do like the one you did choose. Now, that’s one I could keep.
Mama Belle´s last blog ..Why set myself up for failure?
OK, I’m not leaving an additional comment for any other reason but to say, “Thank you, thank you, thank you.” I love me some Anne Taintor … thanks to you actually for introducing me to her. I’ve actually turned some others onto her too. Sorry, I don’t tweet. Facebook is enough. Just pick me, dangit.
Mama Belle´s last blog ..Why set myself up for failure?
I see a trend being set here… I don’t resolve anything. Maybe, possibly, I could resolve to drink. more. margaritas. Yes, I like that idea.

I’m glad your back! I’ve missed you
I resolve to get more Anne in the house. Who else can say it like her? (Well, besides you, of course!)
Don’t ask me to Tweet, girl. Like I have time for that too??
Okay, I resolve not to be pregnant in 2010. How’s that for a resolution??

Second entry – Tweeted on 1/1. Thanks, girl.
I resolve:
To accept that the laundry will never be caught up and the fact that anyone at my house has clean underwear is a accomplishment worthy of praise
To accept that green veggies are good for me, but I don’t have to like eating them
To accept that some people and some things never change – but I have the right to not participate in the crazyness anymore
And that calendar would sure beat the heck out of the cheesy calendar that my bff got me ( I love her but our taste is very different).

I don’t make resolutions because I won’t keep them. Lazy, huh? Okay, here’s one I’ll work on: less bark, more wag.
I love Anne Taintor, it’d be great to win this. There are lots of things I would like to do this year, but I’m not going to “resolve” to do any of them. Like Mama Belle said, I’m not gonna set myself up for failure. Although I really am going to try to blog more this year.
I haven’t made any resolutions yet.
Hmmmm…
thinking. thinking. thinking.
Okay, I got one:
[deep breath]
I resolve to vacuum up all of the pine needles from 2009′s Christmas tree before we put up 2010′s tree.
If I work hard, I think I can do it.
frantically heidi´s last blog ..Goodbye, 2009
So as I was attempting to set the table for our first of 2 “fancy” Christmas meals, I could not for the life of me find my pretty long tablecloth that fits the table with both leaves in it. Couldn’t find it anywhere. Fast forward 24 hours, and I finally discovered it. In the bottom of the hamper in my laundry room. I am fairly certain it had been there since last Christmas. So my resolution for this year is to get my pretty Christmas tablecloth washed this week! I think it’s one I can actually succeed at!
Happy New Years!
Add me to the list of boozy non-resolutioners! I could try to ramp up my wine consumption though, if you really need me to. I’d hate for you to be drinking heavily all on your own.
I decided that 2010 will be my year to get involved and make a difference. My grandson had a malignant tumor removed and will start radiation in 3 weeks. Helping my daughter go thru this journey has shown me how big the need is for additional resources to help the families involved.

no resolutions here. i decided to one-word it this year, though. i’m going with risk. i want to be more intentional to risk, to trust, to put myself out there.
[and i'm already loving your new look. can't wait to see what else is up your sleeve... or rather up someone you're paying's sleeve!]

I’m more into a New Year’s Revolution than a Resolution…just keepin’ it real.
I gave up resolutions a couple of years ago (right around the birth of #3, which was followed closely by the birth of #4…coincidence? I think not.)

No resolutions here. Maybe next year?
Hey Girl,
OK, I resolve not to talk about people so much. Not sure I’ll have anything to say.
Love you!
Fawn
I haven’t done the whole resolutions yet. I may decide tomorrow, I may not
What I have done is enjoy seeing blog posts from you again. It totally makes my day!
Love this!! I am actually toying with whether to torture myself with resolutions or not. Aside from surviving 2009, I didn’t accomplish much. So it’s kind of like if I do set up resolutions I am only seeking out failure. But since I like to torture myself I might do it.
Queen Bee´s last blog ..Dear 2010…
I resolve to have the Christmas tree up no sooner than the day after Thanksgiving…I resolve to burn fewer candles…I resolve to travel less…I resolve to work fewer hours…I also resolve to fly to the moon…I will invent a new source of clean-burning, renewable energy…and I will make fewer, inappropriate, poorly timed passes toward Soliloquy.

My resolution is to own and wear vintage 40′s and 50′s style clothing, and not care what anyone else thinks. Won’t that be fun!
Brilliant!
so need to win this. does a cocktail come with?
mah-meeee´s last blog ..cabin fever
well I think you know I want this. gimme.
A friend of mine wrote a blog about resolutions that inspired me to give it another go. I haven’t really nailed them down yet, but they’re along the lines of yours. Especially the drink more wine one. I don’t want to cling to them so that I feel like a failure when it doesn’t work out, but I don’t see anything wrong with giving yourself a fresh start. Or inspiring yourself to be the best you. I’m toying with the idea of monthly resolutions. Taking things just a month at a time. We’ll see.

Gave up resolutions a long time ago… I just see the new year as a clean slate.
I have a to do list
Like travel to a warm place, and to get fit… That way I can check things off. Instead of relying on my willpower, because like you said it’s a sure way to fail!
do i have to just say i want it? or do I have to say something specific? I’m hoping it’s just “i’m in”….
because that’s all i’m capable of today.
