Nina and I took a walk today. (72 degrees pretty much demands such.) On our walk, we were discussing deep thoughts.
Nina is 15. You would think the topic of conversation would be Hollywood tabloid related happenings.
But it wasn’t.
We were talking about Heaven.
She had some poignant questions, one of which was “Will there be marriage in Heaven?”
I said, “I just don’t know, Nina.”
“Well, think about it, mom. God created Eve for Adam BEFORE the Fall.”
VERY thought provoking, right?
Then she asked if Belle and Spree would be there.
She answered her own question if not with less poignance.
“Probably not”, she surmised. “You’ve damned them too many times.”
Lawd. Whose woman child is this?

Very smart young lady you have there. Although that’d leave lots of people/dogs/animals from getting into heaven.

On the other hand, she’s still young enough to view you as all powerful. Let’s hope she never outgrows that!

I love those kind of talks. Not only do they make great memories and bonding moments, but they allow us as adults to think about things in a whole new light.

I hope that when my daughter gets to be 15 she not only wants to take walks with me, but wants to talk to me still as well!

My grandparents were married for 65-and-a-half years before my grandfather died after a lengthy illness. My grandmother was heartsick, and comforted herself with the knowledge that they would be together again in heaven. And then the minister from the church next door visited, and told her that in fact there is no marriage in heaven. She was devestated. I don’t know why he felt it was necessary to say that to her at that point, but 6 years later, I still feel angry with him for doing it.
I’m a downer here I know, but I’m still a little bitter. Just so Nina knows. I googled and found this page all about it:

(and it was from a 5 second google search, so please don’t hold it against me if that’s some fringey cult website.)
